The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard features GE’s Microgrid Control System (MCS). The MCS includes new metering and a ‘fast load shed’ system, making it possible for the MCS to intelligently select the loads to shed in order to balance with available distributed generation on-site. It will help to empower the U.S. Navy to achieve its energy surety goals by being able to continue operating their facilities in an uninterrupted manner in the event of a grid outage.

The Nice Grid in Provence, France, is Europe’s first smart solar district demonstration project. Among the goals of this utility distribution microgrid is optimization of the integration of distributed energy resources (DER) on the utility network and to island – relying upon GE Grid Solution’s software controls – a portion of that network primarily via solar PV, demand side management and energy storage technologies.
